As the name suggest, this impregnable fort was constructed of iron by Maharaja Suraj Mal to withstand the onslaughts of the British in the 18th century. The fort stood true to its name four times before finally falling to Lord Lake in 1804. The Ashtadhatu (eight-metal) gateway has paintings of huge elephants.
Bhartpur Palace
A royal amalgam of Mughal and Rajput architectural styles, the Bharatpur Palace has some magnificent apartments and some intricately designed floor tiles that heighten the beauty of this glorious edifice. The central part of the Palace houses a museum, which had some very ancient exhibits at display.
Ganga Mandir
Built by Maharaja Balwant Singh in 1845 from a month’s donation of all persons employed in the state service, the Ganga Mandir is on of the finest temple in the region.
Government Museum
This is a huge natural rock perched on a hillside and the precarious way in which it is balanced simply startles its onlookers. Moreover, Mahabalipuram is also an ideal point for indulging in various adventure activities such as bike trips, boat rides, fishing trips, trekking and wind surfing.
